Re:Discover Festival

On May 27th, Mental Fight Club joined classical singer/music maker Lucia Vernon-Long at the Re:Discover Festival, alongside Streetwise Opera. Together, we explored the multi-layered process of creating opera. We learnt how it’s made, staged, and get a sense of its ability to communicate stories, feelings, and histories.

Below is a recording of the group singing one of the beautiful songs that Lucia taught us.

We also enjoyed an inspiring performance by participants in Streetwise Opera, alongside guest artists. The event ended with an electrifying performance by soprano Abigail Kelly of Shirley J. Thompson’s celebratory opera Women of the Windrush, portraying inspirational narratives from the lives of women who travelled to the UK from the West Indies between the 1940s and the 1960s.
