  • St. John's Church st johns church waterlpp London, England, SE1 8TY United Kingdom (map)

Monday 23rd September

MFC is proud to invite you to join us on a unique creative journey that combines mindful movement, artistic expression, and deep relaxation. Explore the power of movement and stillness in this transformative day through a series of carefully curated sessions.

This event is suitable for everyone, no movement experience of level of fitness is required to fully immerse yourself in these sessions.

This event is for you if:

  • You're interested in exploring art as a tool for communal care.

  • You're curious about mental health.

  • You’re curious about how art can play a role in making our daily lives joyous.

  • You simply want to have a fun day filled with Sound, Art, and the joy of Movement!

3:15pm - 3:45pm: A Standing Stretch Workshop

Begin warming up for the day with a gentle exploration of your body through mindful movement. Expert yoga practitioner Anya Nikodem will guide you through learning to connect with your breath and bringing awareness to your physical sensations.

4pm – 5:15pm: Not Quite a Still Life Drawing Workshop

Unleash your creativity through a unique drawing experience where, guided by artist Shelly Wain, you will capture the dynamics of the human body in motion. Produced through a series of rapid not-so-still life sketches, your drawn materials will form the base for an exploration of the work of the artist Matisse.

5:30pm – 7pm: An Ecstatic and Open Floor Dance Session led by Flomotion Dance

Let your body lead the way in this liberating Flomotion dance session.

We are invited to bring our awareness very deliberately to our bodies, our breath and to follow our own movement. The facilitation encourages us to move spontaneously and follow movement impulses; that there are no right or wrong movements, that we don’t need to know what we are doing. It is a ticket to bypass judgement, self-criticism and inertia.

Flomotion is a heady mix of relaxation, joy and physical freedom. Practitioner Julia Franks offers us an invitation to immerse ourselves in the free dance ‘space’ with a unique, funky and liberating play list.

We’ll then gently warm down in preparation for our next session.

7:30pm – 8:30pm: A Healing Gong Bath

You are invited to warm down at the end of the day’s activities with the soothing vibrations of a gong bath. Allow the sounds of magnificent large gongs, played alongside Himalayan singing bowls, quartz crystal singing bowls and Javanese bronze percussion relax your body and mind, and gently guide you back to a state of deep relaxation. This session will be led by experienced gong-player and trained sound therapist Cathy Eastburn who will teach us how sound can play a role in relaxing the body in the aftermath of movement.

Please bring a yoga mat or something comfortable to lie on if possible.

All are welcome and we look forward to welcoming you to The Crypt at St Peters. See you on Monday!
