Monday 20th November
We are looking forward to welcoming you to The Dragon Café on Monday 20th November.
The Dragon Café will be in person at The Crypt at St Peters Church.
Join us as we spend the day getting creative with our special workshops!
Timetable
12:00pm: Doors Open - Come and relax, catch-up and chat. Hot and cold drinks will be available.
1:00pm - 2:00pm: Wordsmiths Creative Writing
In this fun workshop, attendees are guided through structured writing activities and games to enable them to create and share a mixture of fictional and true stories based on their own experiences.
The group setting allows each person to firstly build confidence by sharing work that they have created from nothing, and secondly to build empathy towards other people in their community by hearing their stories in their words. The goal is to enable a creative way to communicate and to understand thoughts and ideas whilst having fun.
2pm: Warm Food: This week at The Dragon Café we have free hot food available! This will be served at 2pm after the creative writing workshop.
2:30pm - 5:00pm: The Ballad of The Dragon Cafe
Session 1: 2:30pm - 3:40pm
Break: 3:40pm - 4:00pm
Session 2: 4:00pm - 5:00pm
In this special session of Dragon Cafe Singers we will share our new song 'The Ballad of the Dragon Cafe', the second in a Trilogy of songs inspired by the 10th anniversary of the Dragon Cafe in 2022. This is an epic story, with more than 100 verses in two Acts, telling the history of the Dragon Cafe, from the point of view of patrons, sharing their golden moments and experiences. Everyone's invited to listen and join in. There'll be opportunities to contribute your thoughts about the past and future of The Dragon Cafe. Maybe you'll be inspired to add something!
Our first song, 'Here & Now', celebrates the joy of dancing and singing at the Dragon Cafe in the present moment. In 'The Ballad of the Dragon Cafe' we tell our personal stories about the past of the Cafe, inspired by the traditional ballad form. Throughout 2023 we met online and in person to share our thoughts, reflections and memories - our group including recent patrons and those who've been coming to the cafe for longer. Daniel O'Byrne hosted song-writing sessions on Zoom for several months, recording and transcribing patron's words, and both he and Sionie Kirtley tried to include everyone's contributions.
We hope you'll enjoy this ballad, and recognise your contribution, if you were able to take part in the online songwriting. We hope that on Monday, we'll gather inspiration and ideas for the final song in our Trilogy: The Future of The Dragon Cafe! Everyone's welcome!
