People who have worked on Shoe Lane over the years share their experiences in the area.
Fleet Street, with its grand-scale offices and sumptuous facades, has long been iconic of the front end of the newspaper industry. The relatively unknown Shoe Lane, however, was for many years a base for the various allied trades involved in printing and distribution. Shoe Lane is a site deeply connected to the industrial and infrastructural histories of printed news, and the one-time home to the headquarters of the Daily Sketch, the Evening Standard, and the International Press centre.
